About
Dorothy Stucki is an artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. She studied drawing, painting, and printmaking at Georgia State University, and has since taught herself to work in various other media including installation and sculpture. Her work often uses imagery inspired by renaissance-era alchemical texts and the tarot, as a way of exploring themes of spirituality, self-transformation, and death. Her recent work consists of mosaics on wood panels. With this tactile medium she creates meticulous, icon-like pieces that glimmer with reflected light, holding a balance between the fixity of concrete, and the illusion of vibrating motion created by tile patterns. Her work aims to momentarily entrance you, pulling you into the timelessness of being, to ponder the mystery of existence, away from the multitude of modern day distractions. The symbols that occur in Dorothy’s work are often used for her own personal spiritual exploration, though they are intended to be recognizable enough to permeate the subconscious mind of any viewer, evoking a sense of something distantly familiar yet forgotten.
